SERVICE · CUSTOM SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
100% Australian team. No junior developers. You own everything we build. 30+ years combined experience.
The decision to build custom software is usually a slow-motion realisation. You have tried three SaaS platforms. Each one fits 70% of your business. The remaining 30% has been hammered into the platform’s shape through manual workarounds, spreadsheets, and a senior person who knows where the workarounds live.
Eventually, the workarounds cost more than the software. Onboarding new staff takes months because the workarounds are tribal knowledge. Reporting is unreliable because data sits in too many places. Strategic decisions are made on instinct rather than evidence. The platform is technically running. The business is running around it.
Custom software is the answer when your business is genuinely differentiated, when the workflows that make you successful do not match the workflows the SaaS market assumes, and when your scale justifies the build cost. None of those conditions are universal. Many businesses are better off with off-the-shelf software and good integrations. We will tell you which side of the line you sit on.
The honest moment most software shops skip: custom is overkill below a threshold. If a SaaS covers 95% of what you need, and the 5% can be solved with an integration or a small custom layer, that is the cheaper answer for the next five years. We will tell you directly. About one in four discovery sessions we run ends with us recommending a SaaS plus integration approach, not a custom build. That recommendation has cost us nothing and earned us trust we could not buy.
If you suspect custom is the right answer but want a sober second opinion, call 0431 000 062 or book a discovery session below.
The decision to build is rarely sudden. It is the accumulation of pattern matches over years. These are the patterns that consistently push businesses across the line.
DIAGNOSTIC
If three or more apply, the case for a custom build is probably real. Discovery will tell you whether the case is also financially defensible.

Every custom build we ship follows the same architectural principles. The detail varies by client. The discipline does not.
We build on Symfony because it is a mature, well-supported PHP framework that any competent dev team can maintain. We deploy into your cloud account (AWS, GCP, Azure) on infrastructure you own. The source code lives in your repository. The intellectual property is yours from day one. You can move us off the project at any time and your software keeps working.
Every state change in the system fires a typed event. Reports are derived. Integrations are clean. Audit logs are automatic. This sounds technical and it is, but it has a business consequence: changes are cheap. New features rarely require rewriting existing ones because nothing is tightly coupled. The cost of evolving the software two years after launch is roughly the same as the cost of evolving it two weeks after launch.
The hardest part of custom software is not the code. It is correctly modelling how your business actually works. We spend significant time in discovery getting the domain model right. The cost of getting this wrong is paid every month for the life of the system, in awkward workarounds and slow feature delivery. Most software that “ages badly” did not age. It was modelled wrong on day one.
Secrets in a managed vault, not in code. TLS everywhere. Role-based access on every endpoint. Audit logs on every privileged action. Production access requires hardware multi-factor authentication. We have shipped software subject to government security review and we treat every build to that standard. Security as an afterthought is how data breaches happen. We build it in from the first commit, not retrofitted after the auditor calls.
Automated tests on business logic and integrations. Not 100% coverage as a vanity number, but coverage where it actually catches regressions. Every deployment runs the full test suite. A broken test blocks a deployment. We have not shipped a regression to production in over two years, across all active client systems. Tests are not glamorous. They are the difference between sleeping soundly and being on call every Friday night.
We structure custom software engagements one of three ways. All three result in source code, infrastructure, and IP that you own.
Not sure which suits? Call 0431 000 062 to talk it through with an engineer.
Three custom builds. Named clients. Real outcomes. Most are happy to take a reference call.
Custom software is not the work for a rotating cast of contractors. The two engineers who run discovery are the two engineers who build, deploy, and hand over. No discovery handover. No offshore subcontract. The person who hears the requirements is the person who writes the code.

Custom software is not a 12-month black box. We ship in two-week sprints with working software at the end of every one. You see progress fortnightly, not at the end.
DISCOVERY
2 to 4 weeks. Domain modelling, prioritised backlog, fixed-scope build quote.
FOUNDATION
4 to 6 weeks. Core domain model, auth, infrastructure, deployment pipeline.
BUILD
3 to 6 months. Two-week sprints with working software at the end of each.
LAUNCH
2 to 4 weeks. UAT, data migration, training, go-live.
SUPPORT
Ongoing. Optional retainer for monitoring, fixes, and enhancements.
Most builds run six to nine months end to end. Larger systems run longer. We will tell you the realistic duration in discovery. We do not promise a six-week build of a six-month system. We tell you what is real.
Three reasons. Symfony has 20+ years of stability behind it. The ecosystem is enterprise-grade (Doctrine, Messenger, API Platform). And any competent PHP shop in Australia can pick up a Symfony codebase. The framework choice is partly about your exit options, not just about our preference. Laravel, Node, and .NET are fine for the right project. For long-lived business systems, Symfony is the safer bet.
Yes. Source code in your repository. Cloud account in your name. IP assignment in the contract. You can move us off the project tomorrow and your software keeps working. We earn ongoing business by being excellent, not by locking you in. The contracts say so explicitly.
Yes. Most custom builds we ship integrate with existing finance, CRM, or operational systems. We have integrated with Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, Stripe, Stripe Connect, Shopify, WooCommerce, Zenoti, Dear Systems, Salesforce, HubSpot, and many more. The integration work is scoped during discovery.
We work to fixed-scope, fixed-price phases. Each phase has a defined deliverable and a defined number. Scope creep gets handled through formal change requests, not silent overruns. If the scope does not change, the price does not change. Across our last 10 builds, average variance was under 4%.
Yes. We deploy into your cloud account. You own the infrastructure. We have onboarded clients to AWS, GCP, and Azure depending on their preferences. For clients without a cloud preference, we recommend AWS Sydney, but the choice is yours.
Two options. Engage us per-incident at our standard hourly rates. Or take a Run With Us retainer (from $6,500 per month) that covers monitoring, on-call, and continuous improvements. Some clients take the code in-house after launch and maintain it themselves. That is also fine.
First demo at end of week two of the build phase. From that point, working software at the end of every sprint. No 12-month black boxes. Every fortnight you get a build to look at, criticise, and steer.
Call 0431 000 062 or book a discovery session through the form below. The first conversation is free and is run by Nicolas or Mark directly. We will tell you whether custom is the right answer for your situation. Sometimes a SaaS plus integration is a better fit, and we will say so.
